The journal Radiation protection and Environment (RPE) is a quarterly publication from the Indian Association for Radiation Protection (IARP). The publication has seen continuous growth under the editorial leaderships of well-known scientists, working in the fields of radiation protection and environmental safety. All the manuscripts received for publication, are peer revived in two stages – by the Editorial Board and by the experts in the respective fields.
The success story of the publication started in the year 1971, as IARP Newsletter, at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai. Later, the publication was updated as Bulletin of Radiation Protection and was published, Vol. 1 to 19, up to the year 1996. Starting from Vol. 20, the Bulletin, in tune with the developments, requirement of peer reviewed papers and demand from environmentalists, was transformed into a journal and renamed as Radiation Protection and Environment (RPE). The journal covers various topics related with radiation protection such as: radiation dosimetry, biological dosimetry, operational radiation protection, environmental radioactivity and radon/thoron measurements, development of instrumentation for radiation protection, nuclear and radiological emergency preparedness, radiation protection standards, radiological safety aspects in the application of radiation /radioisotopes in industry, medicine and research.
The publication contains, the scientific papers, review articles, technical notes, letters to the editor, recent IARP/IAEA publications, news and information items related to radiation protection and environmental safety, etc. In general, the proceedings of the national/international conferences/seminars/topical meetings of the IARP are brought out as special issues of the journal and these volumes have been well received by the radiation protection fraternity, universities and libraries.
The IARP is now pleased to make the journal web-based, with a facility for on-line submission and management of materials received for publication. After considerable deliberations, the job of online publication of the journal was entrusted to a well-known publishing house-Medknow Publications Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai. The journal has a new cover page, finalized after considerable deliberations. The publication house will be responsible to print adequate number of hard copies and manage the distribution of the copies to all the members of the IARP.
Over the years, radiation protection being a multi-disciplinary subject, the Editorial Committee/ Board has been supported by number of experts from different fields from India and abroad. We are in the process of enlarging the Editorial Board for the purpose of review of the scientific submissions for publication in RPE.
The Editor and the Associate Editors of the journal look forward to valuable scientific contribution in terms of original papers, relevant materials for the other aforesaid sections of the journal and support the peer review activity as and when requested.
